Rug Vacuuming Tip

As dust and soil settles upon your rug, it quickly begins the process of finding its way into the base of the rug through the pile fibres. Running a vacuum on the top of your rug with remove surface lint, however any heavier particles will be aided in their downward movement by the vibrating of your vacuum cleaner. Once settled into the base, foot traffic will cause it to rub against the base of the wool pile fibres, slowly damaging the fibres, and leading to wear.

This wear process can be slowed down considerably by making sure all the dirt and grit in the base of the rug is removed. Ideally, this is done by a thorough wet wash by a professional, but there are steps you can take in the home, if space permits.

If you lay your rug on a hard surface, face down, you can slowly vacuum the back of the rug. In this case, the vibrating of your vacuum cleaner will loosen the grit from the base, ending up on the floor.

Removing the soil and regular cleaning can greatly increase the life span of your rug, making sure it lasts for a very long time.
